FLEX Four-Pipe Selection Questions
How do I know whether my building has enough overlapping heating and cooling demand?
Review zone loads through the day and across the year. Different solar exposures, occupied hours and internal gains can create cooling demand while other areas still require heat. An hourly load profile helps identify the heat-recovery opportunity.
Can I connect the unit to an existing two-pipe distribution system?
An existing two-pipe loop can operate in one mode at a time. To deliver heating and cooling simultaneously to different zones, the building needs separate hot- and chilled-water distribution and suitable terminal connections.
Can I keep the existing boiler during a phased upgrade?
Yes. A retained boiler can provide supplementary or backup heat. Define the heating-water setpoints, changeover sequence and responsibilities of each heat source as part of the plant design.
What should the contractor allow for before installation?
Plan equipment delivery and lifting access, a suitable support base, clear airflow, service clearances, insulated water-pipe routes and drainage. Keep isolation points accessible so individual units can be serviced.
How should controls be coordinated across several modules?
The design should define plant enable signals, water-temperature targets, module staging, pump operation, alarms and the interface with the building management system. Agree these requirements during equipment selection.
What documents are useful for design coordination?
Use the technical submittal for performance and connection data, and the Revit file for equipment placement. Share the proposed layout with EXINDA to coordinate access, pipework and the selected electrical configuration.
